The Do’s and Don'ts of Water Damage

Water Damage from Clean Water
Do:
- Shut off the source of water if possible
- Turn off the circuit breakers for wet areas of the building
- Remove as much excess water as possible
- Remove content such as documents, painting, electronics and art and relocate to a dry area
Don’t:
- Enter standing water where electrical shock hazard may exist
- Use your household vacuum cleaner to remove water
- Use TV’s or other appliances while standing on wet floors
- Turn on ceiling fixtures if ceiling is wet or sagging from retained water
Water Damage from Sewage Water
Do:
- Avoid all contact with sewage and wet items
- Wash your hands after contact with sewage or wet items
Don’ts:
- Spread contamination by walking in water or wet areas
- Turn on HVAC system if damaged by water ot use household fans to spread contaminates
