Tips to Avoid Frozen Pipes

1/21/2021 (Permalink)

As the temperatures begin to drop, it is important to prepare your home for the weather to come. One of the most expensive and common causes of property damage is a frozen pipe that bursts. Aside from maintaining the temperature in your living space, it is important to provide sufficient insulation to areas surrounding water pipes. This insulation helps protect your pipes by blocking the flow of cold air. Oftentimes in attics you can find pipes close to the ceiling with insulation placed over them. Verify that this insulation is still intact and undamaged. Insulating tape can be used to wrap exposed pipes in these unheated areas. Also check to make sure there are no holes, cracks or openings near water supply lines which could expose them to freezing air, and seal any openings you may discover.
